Spiritual Leaders Meet at Green Grass
Date: August 7th and 8th, 2004
Place: Chief Arvol Looking Horse residence Green Grass, South Dakota
We are calling to the Chiefs, Medicine People, Warriors, Tribal leaders, Tiospayes, to all People no matter what Nation - who have a concern for Our Children, and most importantly we ask the youth, to join us in protecting, perserving and revitalizing Our Sacred ways of life.
We ask that you come in a good way!
We are writing in regards to protection of Our sacred way of life; the Pipe Ceremonies; Our Mother Earth - most importantly - Her waters, burial grounds; our children and their children for generations to come. because we are a Traditional family, we do everything together. We walk our lives together as one unit, heart, mind and spirit. Therefore, we write this statement in a good way with an open heart, mind and spirit and ask that you, all our relatives, view it this way. Those of you who know us well, know that in our hearts we are truly good, but we are also human and have made mistakes and will more then likely make more. but making mistakes is part of the growing process and learning from our mistakes is how we grow stronger.
500 plus years ago B.C. ( before Columbus ) Our ceremonies and way of life was set and sacred and no one has the right to abuse our sacred ceremonies, but we all have the moral obligation to protect them. We want to state what we believe as a Dakota/Ponca Tiospaye to support what is our responsibility as a Father and Mother of Our future Nation; on behalf of their health - in regards to Mother Earths well being to sustain them, their lineage - to where their Grandfathers and grand mothers lie in places of rest, their way of life - to be left intact and their memory and teachings - to always carry on and think in 7 generations.
